All Aboard the Mountaineer—the supremely scenic Crawford Notch excursion!

The Mountaineer is the most scenic train journey offered by the Conway Scenic Railroad from its North Conway, New Hampshire station. This classic American rail experience recreates the style and elegance of a 1950s transcontinental streamlined train trip—condensed into a 4 to 4.5-hour round-trip excursion.

Travelers ride along the historic Maine Central Mountain Division line, passing through the breathtaking Crawford Notch region. The route is widely known for its stunning views of the Mount Washington Valley and the scenic Saco River, making it one of the best train rides in New England.

Highlights

Passengers on the Mountaineer experience some of the most dramatic railroad scenery in New England, including:
• Panoramic views of the Mount Washington Valley
• The rocky Saco River as it flows from its headwaters at Crawford Notch
• Cliffside rail segments through Crawford Notch
• Views from iconic Frankenstein and Willey Brook Bridges high above the valley floor

The most scenic portion of the trip occurs near Crawford Notch, where the train hugs rugged rocky cliffs and crosses elevated bridges.
