This prototype was built by the Budd Company in 1952 for the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad (THE NEW HAVEN) in 1952 as #23. This car became Penn Central #68, then Amtrak #18, then Metro North #18, then New York, Susquehanna & Western #M-5. CSRR acquired the car in 2008. The car is an RDC-1 and is self-propelled using two Detroit 6-110 diesel engines coupled to Allis Chalmers automatic transmissions. The car develops a combined 550 HP. It is used at the railroad during shoulder seasons and is available for charter most anytime during our operating season.
