Winter Steam
Join the Conway Scenic Railroad for its first annual Winter Steam event. Board at North Conway at 10 am for a leisurely four to five-hour round trip to Sawyers River and return behind steam locomotive 7470. Winter Steam captures the romantic experience of steam operations in frosty winter conditions which lend to dramatic displays of steam locomotive exhaust and whistles echoing down the valley.
Our Steam Locomotive 7470 was built in 1921 for Canada’s Grand Trunk Railway. It was bought by Conway Scenic’s founder Dwight Smith in 1968 and restored to service to become this railroad’s first active locomotive in 1974. In 2019, 7470 was again restored to active service after a five-year hiatus.
We have a limited number of special tickets available for our photographers-car. Holders of these tickets will be permitted to get off the train at preselected locations to make action photographs of the train as it charges by.
All sales are final and tickets are not refundable.
