In 2010, it is scheduled to operate from late July to Labor Day and again from mid-September through the third week of October.

This locomotive was built in 1921 by the Grand Trunk Railroad's Point Charles Shops in Montreal, Quebec. It was acquired by Dwight Smith in 1968 and joined the start-up Conway Scenic Railroad in 1974.

The train departs from our North Conway station at 11:00 a.m. and returns at approximately 4:00 p.m. Included in the excursion is an hour's layover at Crawford Station, which is across from Saco Lake (a small pond from which the the mighty Saco River originates) and adjacent to the AMC\'s Highland Center. We invite you to participate in this special outing and ride on The Millie, a Rail Diesel Car, or RDC, which is a self-propelled, diesel-hydraulic rail passenger car. Between 1949 and 1962, three hundred and ninety-eight RDCs were built by the Budd Company of Philadelphia, PA. These cars were a familiar site in rural areas like the Mt. Washington Valley, with its low traffic density, because they were less expensive to operate than a traditional locomotive-drawn train. The cars could be used singly or several coupled together in train sets and controlled from the cab of the front unit.

Our car is an RDC-1 that was built for the New Haven Railroad in 1954 as their No. 23. It became Penn Central No. 68, then Amtrak No.18, then Metro North No. 18 and was then sold to the NYSW where it was numbered M-5.
