7470 returned to service on September 12 after a successful FRA inspection on the 10th. The new tender is holding water quite nicely and we are all very impressed each time we look down into the tank because we can see the bottom through crystal clear water! The old tank always presented a murky rust color. Brian Fanslau was over to tinker with the air pump a bit. He changed the arraignment of the oiling cups for the air end of the compressor and he also changed out the fireman’s check valve in the injector line. After these refinements the only thing left is to get the forward B&M whistle fixed so that it won’t get stuck in the open position! That can be embarrassing. Of course our own shop crew did a lot of work getting the engine ready for service and we simply couldn’t run it without them.

Ester Gerry spearheaded a new paint job on Caboose # 75955. This required quite a bit of siding work that was undertaken by George Small. The car looks very nice now in its new paint. Pete Davis has taken the Grand Trunk style heralds to his home to rework them into heralds that proclaim CONWAY SCENIC. While we were doing the switching for Railfans’ day we rearranged the yard a bit. We moved coach #1058 off the caboose track and spotted the two cabooses that have been on the ‘new’ track over to the caboose track. After the cabooses were spotted we spiked the switch permanently for the ‘new’ track.

B23-7 #23 has been resuscitated and will soon be making some test runs on the Valley train.

The track crew has been busy changing ties up through Whittaker Woods on the Conway Line and now on the Redstone line from Mountain Junction down to Depot St. We hope to get some more ties in down toward Redstone in the very near future.

Steam is planned again this year for the 470 club trip from North Conway to Redstone and Bartlett and then diesel will take over for the balance of the trip to Fabyan and beyond if time permits.

As always thank you for your interest in and support of Conway Scenic Railroad. Have a SAFE day!
