THOMAS has come and (almost) gone! Actually at this writing the little blue engine is occupying stall 3 of the Roundhouse, he should be leaving sometime next week. The Thomas folks asked us to store him here for an extra week for them and since Thomas is fairly well behaved we said OK.

Numbers for the event were down a bit from 2006 but we were still very Busy for 6 days entertaining the folks that came to see him. A big thank you goes out to all of the volunteers and CSRR employees who made this event possible. Thank you for a job well done.

RDC 23 made its first shakedown run on July 4th, arriving at the Conway freight house exactly at high noon. The following Thursday it handled the 4:30 revenue trip to Conway. That allowed the regular Valley consist to stay in North Conway so that we could temporarily convert Gertrude Emma into a dining car for a large group that we had that evening. We will be using the RDC to take a school group over to Puddin pond on August 7 for an ecology tour and we plan on using it for the run to Sawyers River on Railfans' weekend.

The decision has been made to not run steam this summer. We got behind on the work that the tender needed and that work is still ongoing. The plan will be to have steam operating for Railfans' weekend and the fall foliage season. This is disappointing for a lot of our passengers as it is to us, however once the tender is complete the locomotive will be in good shape. We are looking forward to our January 2009 STEAM IN THE SNOW run with Mass Bay RRE.

With steam not operating this summer it will give our shop crew a little more time to concentrate on bring B23-7 No 1943 to life. We are about to install a newly rebuilt air compressor in it along with the batteries from #2820. If all goes well we will try her out on the Notch in the not to distant future.

Conway scenic leased coach 6743 to the New Hampshire Central Railroad for the day on July 26 so they could run some trains for Presby Environmentals' picnic. The NHC GP9 and our coach made several trips back and forth from Hazen in Whitefield to Cherry Pond at Waumbek Junction; this was a good opportunity for folks to pick up some rare mileage. ALCO 1055 took the car up to HAZEN on Friday and is scheduled to bring it back on Sunday.

That's about all for now, as always thank you for your interest in and support of Conway Scenic Railroad. Have a SAFE day!
