Wow what a winter for snow! The snow banks are as high as an Elephants eye! Even so the work goes on at the Railroad. The shop crew has just completed the work on open sided car #1557. We put a reflectorized stripe on the sides of the car but instead of it being located along the bottom edge we put it where the existing painted stripe had been directly underneath the window line. Since this is a wooden car with bead board siding on it we chose to have stencils made for the numbers and the name of the car which is "Black Mountain" instead of using vinyl stick on lettering. Past experience tells us that vinyl letters & numbers will not stick well to the irregular surface of the bead board.

As soon as car #1557 was out of stall #2 we put car #6749 in its place. Here is a project that will take quite a while to complete. The old windows will be removed and new aluminum framed ones will be installed. All the seats will be removed so that the old electric heater units under each seat can be removed. We have to install a furnace and install supply and holding tanks for a rest room. This is a major project for us but one that has been done here in the roundhouse many times before. I'll keep you posted on how it's going.

We did manage to get observation car Gertrude Emma into stall #3 of the Roundhouse; however we had to build a temporary door with plywood and studding! Eventually we need to rework the doors to stall #3 so that they swing outward like the doors on stalls 1 & 2. Anyway the car is inside and the work is proceeding on sanding and re-staining the windows. Each window frame is being sanded down, re-stained and then given 3 coats of high quality polyurethane. At this time about half of the windows are out of the car.

It was good to see many of you at the Amherst Railway Society show in West Springfield, MA. We had a fantastic day for sales at our tables on Saturday and we gave away lots of information and brochures for the upcoming season. We sold out of a new video that was made during our steam trip with Mass Bay RRE on January 5th called Steam in the Snow by Black 5 Productions. Our custom HO Box cars #2007 & #2008 were also big sellers. Both items will be available in our gift shop when we reopen in the spring or you can get them now at our website, www.conwayscenic.com.

Thank you to all for your interest in and support of Conway Scenic Railroad. Have a Safe Day.
