June 1, 2010

We are off to a good start for the 2010 season. Ridership has been strong, and we are entering the home stretch for the inauguration of dining car service on our Notch Trains. There is still much to do on the HATTIE EVANS, but completion of this project is well in sight. We are still waiting for the wheel sets from the wheel shop to put back under dome car DORTHEA MAE, and it's important to have this car in service as the generator under this car is the normal power source for the train. We have much work to do before the Notch Trains start to run, and that time will soon be upon us.

We used #6516 and #4266 as the power on the Saturday of Memorial weekend, and they ran well together. #573 was back on the train for the balance of the long weekend. We used the #216 for two days in work train service running out some ballast on the Conway Line. The 'pocket track,' one of the radial tracks that come off the turntable, was extended by about 15' so that it is now long enough to hold the longer locomotives that we now have on the roster.

The Rule book has been edited and updated for another year, and rules class for all crew will be the first weekend in June.

That’s it for this month; I promise a longer report next time. As always, thanks for your interest in and support of Conway Scenic Railroad. When ever you are trackside ALWAYS EXPECT A TRAIN!
