The beautiful flatware on our dining cars was donated by
located at Settlers' Green Outlet Village, here in North Conway.

The newest addition to our fleet of cars is the Hattie Evans, which was built by Pullman Standard in 1949 for Norfolk & Western Railroad as a D-1 class Dining Car. The car was #492 on N&W's Powhatan Arrow and Pocahontas Trains. After the end of N&W service, the car became part of the original Chuck Wagon Restaurant in Lewiston, Maine. She was then acquired by the Maine Rail Group (MRG/Downeast Rail). We purchased the car in late 2008 for service on the Crawford Notch trains. Rehabilitated during the winter/spring of this year, The Hattie has a new stainless steel kitchen, an oak interior, original oil murals, and beautiful, customized booths with seating for 48 passengers.

Each Notch Train departs at 11:00 a.m. and offers two luncheon seatings: at 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m. Depending on the train fare purchased, you will board the train as usual in Coach, First Class, or in the Upper Dome, then an announcement will be made for the respective seatings. You must buy a train ticket in order to have lunch on The Hattie. The cost of lunch is additional to the train fare. To view the schedule and fares, please click here.

The menu includes appetizer, choice of entree, and dessert. Choose from a tempting selection of house specialties prepared by Crawford's Restaurant especially for us.

Hattie Evans was a real person who lived with her family in the Mt. Willard Section House in Crawford Notch from 1903 to the early 1940s. We are proud to honor the memory of this incredible woman by conferring her name on our beautiful new dining car. To read more about Hattie Evans herself, please visit the history section of our website.
